The allure, coquettishness, natural theatricality, and theatricalization of the “Paris of the Caucasus,” its unfading beauty and inimitable atmosphere, undoubtedly influenced Gayane’s unique imagination, whose phenomenal nature is beyond dispute. Her figurative yet simultaneously unreal world, filled with strange creatures placed within an equally strange atmosphere, can be described neither as metaphysical nor as surrealist. Most likely, it is an extraordinarily poetic, uninhibited fantastic realism that burst dynamically into her colorful canvases and is so artistically justified that the credibility of its enduring presence leaves no room for doubt.
